For Them is a black trans-owned cultural platform that reaches LGBTQ+ communities where they are—primarily through social media. We provide vital information, resources, and connection points for people seeking community, wellness guidance, and authentic representation. Through our digital presence and innovative product offerings, we foster radical self-expression and create spaces for individuals to embrace their true selves. Our mission is to be a trusted source of support and celebration for the LGBTQ+ community, meeting critical needs for visibility, education, and belonging in the digital landscape.

Autostraddle has been serving LGBTQ+ women, trans, and non-binary people since 2009. We're a goldmine of researched queer journalism—16 years of meticulously documented history, culture and lived experiences. From groundbreaking trans representation research to deep dives into lesbian history, from queer TV criticism to coming out guides, we've built the definitive archive of knowledge. Our award-winning journalism has shaped discourse, our community has launched careers, and our voice has defined what authentic queer media looks like. We're not just documenting queer culture—we're creating it, preserving it, and now we're ready to translate it to TikTok.

What you will do 📅

This is a remote freelance position for a Content Creator focusing on Autostraddle’s TikTok. You'll transform 16 years of Autostraddle's researched queer journalism, research, and reporting into viral TikTok videos that build audience and drive magazine sales.

You'll mine our extensive archive, identify viral-worthy content, serve as on-camera talent, and translate long form queer history/culture/research for TikTok audiences. You'll become another one of the faces of Autostraddle's TikTok —someone who is passionate about queer content, who can authentically riff on our content, understanding that TikTok requires genuine excitement and investment in the material.

You get s*** done🔥 and take pride in your work. You're resourceful and reliable, always spotting trends before they peak. You understand how to leverage our goldmine of resources to meet new Autostraddle audiences where they are at on Tiktok. You can work independently, move quickly from trend identification to execution and understands how to build brand in the LGBTQ+ creator economy.

Responsibilities

  • Mining Autostraddle's 16-year archive for viral-worthy content
  • Serving as on-camera talent ideating and producing videos independently
  • Translating complex research/journalism into compelling short-form narratives
  • Identifying trending topics and adapting our existing content to current conversations
  • Creating content that builds following and magazine/membership sales

    Required skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated success creating viral or high-engagement TikTok content—whether for yourself, on behalf of an influencer, or for a brand
  • Strong on-camera presence with ability to riff naturally without scripts
  • Proficiency in social media content creation and short-form video editing (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts)
  • Deep understanding of TikTok culture, trends, and what drives virality
  • Authentic excitement about and investment in queer content/history/culture
  • Ability to distill complex long form research/articles into entertaining video content

    • Nice-to-have skills and experience:

  • Experience leveraging existing content archives or research
  • Knowledge of queer history, culture, and current discourse
  • Familiarity with Autostraddle's voice and editorial approach
  • Experience using social content to drive sales

  • Flexible hours with consistent output expectations
  • Starting as freelance with potential to grow into part-time or full-time based on performance and results
